Senior Becky Kaplan scored twice to lead the No. 13 Maryland women’s soccer team to a 3-0 season-opening victory over Navy at the Glenn Warner Soccer Complex Friday night.
The Terps held off the Mids early on as Navy attacked with a lot of passion and intensity. Navy had an early corner kick opportunity that ended with a quality opportunity for Jade Seabrook, but senior Bailey Bodell stepped in front of the shot to end the chance.
But it was Maryland that got on the board first. Junior Kristen Schmidbauer played the ball to freshman Shannon Collins, who made a terrific run down the left side and crossed the ball from the corner to the far corner of the six-yard box where senior Becky Kaplan volleyed it off of her knee into the far right corner.
