Maryland junior midfielder Mike Chanenchuk and junior goalie Niko Amato have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Chanenchuk led all scorers with four points to lead the Terrapins over No. 15 Yale. He scored the game’s first goal on an unassisted shot early in the first quarter and added a second to give Maryland the lead back in the third quarter shortly after the Bulldogs had tied the game.
Amato made a career-best 24 saves to lead Maryland over Yale. The junior was steady throughout the game, as he recorded five, six, seven, and six saves in quarters one through four, respectively. He came up big in the biggest moment of the game, recording his 24th save shortly after the go-ahead goal with 13 seconds left to preserve the victory.
