Why The Ravens will Opt Out of the 32nd Pick–Blog from Dennis Koulatsos, Ravens Draft Guru

There’s been several times in the past few years, where Ravens fans have waited impatiently for the team to make its pick in the first round, only to go to bed disappointed due to the team trading out of that spot.  In fact, last year I was screaming for them to pick CourtneyUpshaw in round one.  Well, we all know how that went.  There is a good reason why Ozzie Newsome is the GM of the team, and I’m writing this blog.

In Ozzie we Trust has been our mantra, and that trust has served us well.  So based on history, based on “what the Ravens do”, here’s my prediction as to what will happen Thursday night.  Unless – and that’s a big UNLESS – a player of unspeakable value drops to the Ravens when it’s their turn to pick, they will trade out of that spot and into the second and third round.  Here’s why.

As it stands, the Ravens will pick 3 of the first 94 players.  By trading OUT of the first round, they will have the opportunity to pick 4 of the first 94 players.  This is a deep, deep, deep draft! There are players that in a typical year would go in the second round, but due to the volume of players, will drop to the third round, and so on and so forth.  Eric Decosta is even on record as saying that there are so many good players, it’s like adding an extra round!!!

What a great time to have 12 draft picks at their disposal! Furthermore, the Ravens typically have between 100 – 150 draftable players on their board, plus another 15 or so priority undrafted free agents.  This year, the Ravens have 185 draftable players on their board!

Bottom line is that I see the team coming away with 2 second round draft picks, and 2 third round draft picks.  Don’t be surprise to see a combination of 4 players from this group:  Arthur Brown, Kiki Alonso, Sio Moore, Kevin Minter, Manti Te’o, Menelik Watson,Terron Armstead, Reid Freigel, Jonathan Cyprien, Matt Elam, DJ Swearinger, DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen, Justin Hunter, Quinton Patton, Da’Rick Rogers, or Robert Woods.

Later on today I will publish my final mock draft for all seven rounds!
