The End of The Edsall Era—Randy , Fran Foley and Lyndon Johnson are Released by the University of Maryland

Dear Mr. Bruce Posner:

As a valued and generous supporter of the University of Maryland, I am writing to inform you of my decision to relieve Randy Edsall of his duties as head football coach at the University of Maryland.  I am grateful to Randy for his many great contributions to the well-being of Maryland students and the football program.  I’m particularly proud of the academic accomplishments and community service activities from our football program during his years as our football team’s leader.

As we are now members of the Big Ten Conference, it is critical that the University of Maryland puts a competitive team on the field.  Seeing Maryland students be successful on and off the field is our top priority and I will begin searching for the next head football coach immediately.  I thank you for the many ways you support Maryland Athletics and our football program, and I look forward to introducing our new coach in the near future.

RANDY EDSALL RELIEVED OF COACHING DUTIES

Mike Locksley named Interim Head Coach

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson announced Sunday that Randy Edsall has been relieved of his duties as head football coach.

“We appreciate Randy’s tireless commitment to the University of Maryland,” said Anderson.  “This was a difficult decision, but ultimately this is the best course of action for our football program moving forward.”

Offensive coordinator Mike Locksley has been named the interim coach for the remainder of the season.

“Having spent more than a decade with the Maryland football program over the course of his career, I feel Mike is best suited to effectively guide our program through the remainder of the 2015 season,” Anderson said. “Mike has previous head coaching experience and is well-respected both locally and nationally.”

In addition, Assistant Head Coach/Outside Linebackers Coach, Lyndon Johnson has been relieved of his coaching duties.
