Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon
On the win against Penn State:
“I want to give Penn State a lot of credit. I thought they were terrific tonight, in this environment
they did a great job. Obviously we struggled offensively from the beginning and I thought it
affected us greatly. We went into halftime and just tried to give our guys confidence and speed
the game up any way we could. Of course in the end our crowd was just remarkable. Down 13
with six to go, it didn’t look very good, we didn’t have a lot going, couldn’t make a shot. We
really executed down the stretch which was a good sign for me.”
On Diamond Stone’s record-setting performance:
“I think Diamond likes the bright lights, he likes the big stage, he likes to be challenged and we
were extremely challenged today. He had 39 points and 12 rebounds but I’m probably going to
watch the tape and be most pleased with his defense. There were times in the first half when he
was playing well but hurting us defensively, second half I didn’t feel that way. I thought toward
the end we protected the rim better.”

Opening remarks:
“It was a great game. I thoroughly enjoyed coaching
that game. I give Maryland a lot of credit.
We had them down, but we need to learn how to
put teams away. Maryland showed why they’re
ranked number four in the country and are one of the best teams in the Big Ten. We got better.
We’re growing up. I’m really excited about coaching this crew. I don’t know what’s going to
happen Saturday, but I know one thing for sure: we got better today. I give Diamond Stone a lot
of credit for how he battled. I thought the game plan was executed very well and our guys
stayed married to that execution. A couple of turn
overs late in the game really hurt us. Offensive
rebounds late in the game really hurt us. We’ll watch the film, learn from it and prepare for
Michigan.”
On Diamond Stone’s performance:
“I thought he went clean to the glass and played hard. He had eight offensive rebounds. He has
a nose for the ball, and the ball is attracted to him. He made some big time plays. He’s a tough
physical kid and has a lot of talent.
