Hey, Melo is Human—Despite Fantastic Game from Jake and Diamond Terps fall to Michigan 70-67

Guard play did the Terps in tonight. Melo, Rasheed, Varun, and Nickens went a combined 4-23 for 10 points.  Melo lost his rhythm after getting in early foul trouble.

Our 3 bigs combined for 21-34 in a great effort.

Diamond finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Jake was 7-10 and finished with 18 points.

Jared Nickens continued his frigid shooting going 0-4 for a bagel

Freshman Diamond Stone and senior Jake Layman each posted double-doubles but No. 3 Maryland’s late comeback fell just short at Michigan, 70-67, Tuesday night.

Stone posted 22 points and 11 rebounds while Layman added 18 points and 10 boards as the Terps (15-2, 4-1 B1G) saw its nine-game winning streak snapped.

Michigan (13-4, 3-1 Big Ten) led by as many as 13 points in the second half, but the Terrapins came all the way back behind Stone, who scored 19 after halftime. Maryland took a brief lead at 57-56, but the Wolverines made enough big shots down the stretch.

Michigan led 67-59 after a pair of 3-pointers, but Maryland made one last run. Stone cut the deficit to two when he made two free throws with 40 seconds left, but after a Michigan miss at the other end, the Wolverines came up with the decisive offensive rebound.

Rasheed Sulaimon‘s tying attempt from beyond the arc missed.

Robert Carter added 15 points for Maryland, which welcomes Ohio State for a noon tilt on Saturday at XFINITY Center.

tough to win in the road but you need to play 40 minutes if you want to win. md came out flat and unprepared. everyone in the free world knows that a john beilein coached team is going to shoot 3’s but md didn’t defend very well in the first half.

give credit to mich. they won without their best player who leads the team in scoring, rebounds and assists.

yes melo and suly didn’t score but why did it take turgeon so long to figure out he should pound the ball inside? wake up mark!

someone needs to tell robert carter to stop throwing up 3 point shots. he shoots under 30% from beyond the arc.

terps couldn’t get over the hump (what hump?…young frankenstein)

terps have no depth. checko and bender have basically disappeared from the scene. turgeon has seen enough of brantley. ram hustles but he’s not the answer to a much needed ballhandler off the bench and nickens can’t make a hoop. terps are pretty much down to 6 guys.

very good game by layman. team needs jake to play consistent. hopefully his confidence went way up after last night and he can continue to be productive.

the big man continues to get better and better. hopefully turgeon starts running more plays for him. it will open up things for the guards.

md had 8 assists and 12 turnovers and shot 6-24 on 3’s. 20-34 inside the arc.

just because you come in to an arena number 3 doesn’t mean the other team is just going to throw in the towel.

in summary…biggest problem last night was turgeon waiting so long to pound the ball inside. oh well. time to move on. next up thee ohio state university….former employer of gary williams.

Maryland needs to play 40 minutes. Same old story we have a bad half. Get down by double digits an claw our way back at the end of the game. But the story was different this time no miracle & we lost. Reminds me of the old saying. Play with fire and sooner or later you get burnt.

What happened to Brantley? Did he even play? What a disappointment. No decent backup PG again this year.
