i think golden st. is bored. playing for the best regular season record pales to playing for a championship. they don’t give you a parade for what you do in the regular season. i think they’ll be fine in the playoffs.

unless stone moves up to the first 12 picks i think he will be back.

makes no sense for melo to leave if he doesn’t go in round one.

i don’t see carter leaving unless he gets a great offer to play overseas.

o’s off to a nice start. pitching has held up but it’s only 2 games. it’s all about pitching.

I’m not sure I agree entirely about Stone. I don’t know what influence Papa Stone will have but if he’s going in the first round then he has to strongly consider taking the guaranteed money and getting the clock running on that second contract which is where the real money is.

As for Melo, I need you to explain what he has to gain by staying even if he only projects as a second round pick. Yes, he struggled over the last half of the year but probably due to playing hurt. He could come back and be more consistent but I don’t see where another year in college helps his measurables very much. He’s not going to get significantly quicker or jump much higher. I’m not sure which is the riskier option for Melo.

RCJ is a different story. He might be able to better his position by strengthening his base, getting more consistency in his rebounding and long range shooting. I think if he projects as a mid-to late second round choice this year, his only real risk in returning is the risk of injury but as a second rounder without guaranteed money I’m not sure an injury in the NBA is considerably more deleterious.

Trimble’s physical measurables certainly won’t change but there are aspects of his game that clearly need improvement and he may be better off spending an extra year or two in school working on defense, turnovers, and outside shooting. Clear improvement in those areas may be enough to sneak him into the late 1st round vs the 2nd round pick he’d almost certainly be this year. Additionally with those areas of his game addressed he would be more likely to make an NBA roster vs spending time in the d-league.

Then again say he improves in all those areas and becomes Yogi Ferrell who was a great college point guard but isn’t on anyone’s draft radar. The NBA draft is all about perceived potential, the more you prove out who you are as a player the less exciting you become as a draft prospect.

If Stone is in the first round he should stay in the draft.

Well, shows what I know. A report on 24.7 says RCJ is not merely declaring for the draft but will hire an agent.

Also, my comment above is based strictly on my lack of basketball knowledge. My lack of knowledge about these individual’s personal situations makes my willingness to comment even more ridiculous and appalling.

todd you mentioned the key about stone and his future..the second contract. another yr in college gives him the opportunity to grow up emotionally, get in better shape and improve his skills particularly defense and rebounding. if he can do that he’d be drafted higher next yr so a better contract but more importantly he could be more of an asset and be able to contribute more to his nba team which would give him a much better chance of getting a bigger second contract.

not a lot of time for guys to work on their game once you start playing games in the nba. to much travel. play a game..fly out…next city..walk through shot around and play a game.

as for melo if he comes back and can stay healthy and play well he’ll go in the first round and get a guaranteed contract. he won’t get more athletic but could get stronger. he could improve his pt guard skills and become a smarter player and a better leader. he also could improve his technique. he shots off his shoulder more than extending his arms higher.
not hurting much in college but will hinder his game at the next level.

carter needs more muscle and a better stronger lower body. he also needs to work on his shooting decisions-court sense. he’s not a stretch 4. so he’d have to get amaziingly better as an outside shooter or become a smarter more disciplined player. more than likley he’s a euro player in the future
