Observations:
Maybe the 1st game of the year the Terps were really dominated but in this game it was only the 2nd half (44-27)
Ironically rebounds were 44-27 Wisconsin inc 18 offensive rebounds
It was a little suprising (and I mean little) to see Melo sit the final 4 minutes:
Asked about his decision to sit Trimble at the end, Turgeon said: “He was tired, he was carrying us, he missed two free throws he never misses. If we had made a little run, I would have put him back in. We got four games in 10 days [coming up]. Wisconsin was dominating the game.”
Said Trimble, who was coming off a career-high 32 points against Northwestern: “I missed free throws, it happens. I’m a basketball player. I’m not going to be perfect, even though I want to. I just came up short. Coach took me out. I thought I was going to get a breather, but I wound up not going in and the game was pretty much pushed out to the point where it was no point to put me back in.”
Both teams were horrible from the free throw line–Terps 14-23 and Wisconsin 21-37
When Trimble missed the one and ones late in the game, you knew that was it
Ceko rolled his ankle at the end of the game–not a good sign
Our bigs were were just outplayed pure and simple
Hayes and Happ combined for 41 points and 17 rebounds
Stupid statement of the day: Greg Gard (Wisconsin coach) said Showalter did a nice job on Trimble. Melo was 9-17 inc 4 treys and scored 27
Nigel Hayes apologized to Turgeon and the Terps for his breakaway dunk with 16 seconds left—no big deal
The Terps lost a golden opportunity for a marquee win but today the badgers were just better. No time for self pity–Minnesota is at Xfinity on Weds night
