3-Peat For Terps as Big Ten Champions

Brenda does it again!!!!!

This should secure no less then a 2 seed for the Terps.

Senior Brionna Jones had 27 points and 12 rebounds and No. 4 Maryland beat Purdue 74-64 on Sunday night to win the Big Ten Tournament championship for the third straight season.

The Terrapins (30-2) are the third team in conference history to win three consecutive titles. They also claimed the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Jones was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player while senior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, freshman Destiny Slocum and Jones were named to the all-tournament team.

Maryland used an 11-0 second-quarter run to open up a 37-28 lead.

Purdue finished the half with six straight points to make it 37-28 and still trailed 42-38 early in the second half. The Terrapins scored the next nine points to make it 51-38 and continued pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Brionna Jones three games were so productive it’s almost hard to comprehend:

    Points: 73 (24.3/gm)
    FG: 29-38 (.763)
    FT: 15-17 (.882)
    Reb: 34 (11.3/gm)
    Ast: 11 (3.7/gm)
    Block: 8 (2.7/gm)
    Steal: 7 (2.3/gm)

And, these don’t quantify the passes she deflects where a teammate gets credited for the steal, or her help defense walling off the inside against driving guards and on an on. Terps fans should appreciate what a great player she’s become and the degree to which she’s maximized her talent and skills.
