Terps Selected For NCAA Tournament—To Play at Towson on Sunday

The worrying is over. Despite the hopeful thoughts of Maryland haters like we heard all day, the committee got it right and selected the team that spent most of the season at #2 for one of the final at large bids ,in the tournament.

The “reward” for being one of the last at large bids is a road game against a superb well rounded Towson Tiger team. What a battle it will be.

My predictions for the other 7 1st Round games.

#1 Penn State will have little trouble with the winner of the Marist UMBC play in game. Hats off to Ryan Moran, UMBC Coach, for winning his tournament and getting the bid but Penn State is #1 and too strong.

#2 Loyola and the Tewaaraton favorite Pat Spencer will dispose of Syracuse at Loyola on Saturday.Loyola spent a fews at the top of the rankings, a sight Syracuse hasn’t seen in years. Sorry Carc.

#5 Yale will fall to Kevin Warne and the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday. This is not the Yale team from last year without Ben Reeves. A dominant face off showing by TD Ierlan will be needed for any chance of a Yale win but I love the toughness of any Kevin Warne defense as I witnessed in his years at Maryland.

When Maryland defeated #4 Penn early in the year, I believed that the Terps had defeated what would be easily be the IVY Champs this year. Army had 2 great wins over Loyola and Lehigh to capture its conference tournament by it’s great defense will not be enough to overtake Penn.

Robert Morris had a great showing losing to the Terps last year but #3 Virginia is just too strong offensively.

Johns Hopkins after 3 of the best games it has played in years will crush #7 Notre Dame Sunday at 7:30. Notre Dame #7? Why? Message to Coach Pietramala–if there is a rainstorm or the such don’t accept any offer to play the game indoors.

#2 Duke will struggle with Richmondbut will survive on the strength of its middie play.

Much more on the Terps Towson game throughout the week. Lots of Towson video to study.
