By Wayne Viener – A wonderful, spectacular and special season came to a sputtering end on Saturday night. The 28-12 loss featured a Ravens defense that could not stop the extraordinary effort by the Titans Derrick Henry and the Baltimore offense could not complete drives.
The Titans defense managed to take the middle of the field away for most of the game from Lamar Jackson. Jackson’s spectacular runs and the one long throw to Hollywood Brown were to his right and down the sideline.
With Tennessee sitting in a zone with spies on Lamar, the Ravens were able to travel well between the 20 yard lines. As space became tight near the end zone, there did not seem to be room to operate. The Ravens had to settle for field goals.
The Ravens have been aggressive on 4th down all year. In this case, the analytics failed Coach Harbaugh. Being stopped twice on 4th and 1, the Titans scored both times. Sometimes the football G-ds don’t like analytics.
In the end, the game was still available for the Ravens to take, but the “instant classic” which would have required a TD with a 2 pt conversion along with an onside kick recovery and another TD with a 2 pt conversion, didn’t materialize.
Bruce will have more on the game and where the Ravens go from here on the Monday 8am edition of In the Nest on WNST and Wednesday’s TerpTalk at 6pm on 1300 CBS Sports Radio.
