Tenn Loss Joins My Top Ten Losses of All Time—BP

In Reverse Order:

#10—May 26 2013 at Villanova as Terrapin Women’s Lacrosse dropped a 3 OT game to Carolina for the Title–agonizing as the Terps had so many chances to win.

#9—-1970 Game 7 Loss to Knicks in the Eastern Finals

#8—- Super Bowl III loss to Jets 16-7 in Miami—agonizing to this day

#7— RAVENS TITANS. Yes there have been greater upsets, But the Ravens were 10 point home favorites on a 12 game roll. What followed was inexplicable.

#6—1979 Game 7 vs Pirates when O’s drop a 2-1 decision to “We are family” I was sitting in the right field corner when Eddie hit a bases loaded fly out that appeared to me to be a dinger.

#5—Nov 22, 1999 LaMont Jordan rushes for 306 yards in the greatest individual performance by a Terp ever, yet Maryland loses to UVA 34-30 on a final minute drive. What hurt even more was that Maryland needed the win to become Bowl eligible.

#4—One of my favorite Terrapin basketball player of all time is Greivis Vasquez. Greivis had more love for Maryland and Coach Williams then anyone since Juan. He saved his best for his last game as a Terps in the quarters against Michigan State. Down 80-71 with 1:53 left, Greivis engineered an incredible comeback with the Terps Terps taking a 83-82 lead on a floater with 7 left. Then disaster struck as corey Lucious hit a trey at buzzer. Without question it was the greatest final minute performance by a Terp even though they lost.

#3—Quarterfinals of NCAA Lacrosse—UVA ties the game at 12 with a minute on a ruled goal that never went into the net. Terps had squandered a 12-8 lead in the final minutes. What infuriated me even more was how Lars Tiffany, UVA coach, said he didn’t know what was going on and that he doesn’t believe in replay. To compound the torment, UVA went on to win Maryland’s Title. Revenge game on Mar 21, 2020 at College Park. I plan on attending.

#2—Terps lose the NCAA Lacrosse Championship in OT to to Carolina 14-13. Maryland has and still dominates North Carolina. But on this day, the Kellys, (Bones and Timmy) along with Cloutier were up to the task. This was the 4th Title loss for the Terps in 6 years and I was ready to jump out the press box window. Sanity prevailed and Rambo and the guys delivered the natty the next year.

#1—Evans dropped the pass and then Cundiff missed a chip shot FG to tie the game. Patriots to the Super, Ravens go home. I stared at the ceiling for 10 minutes. A year later in 2012 it was redemption day for the Ravens.
