ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL–Terps Capture Big Ten Championship

By Bruce Posner

A good team is never as bad as it looks when they lose. The Terps looked bad on 2 road games vs Ohio State and Rutgers as well as being beaten badly by a surging (what else is new) Sparty team. But home cooking turned everything around. Wiggins and Ayala were fantastic, Stix was double double machine as usual, and Cowan was spectacular. The result was a 13 point rout of a very good, NCAA worthy Michigan squad.

So its off to the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan State looms large in a possible semi final matchup (Saturday) but both teams must avoid upsets after the double bye. But that’s for later in the week.

Yes, it was a great, emotional day for Coach Turgeon. Every time the Terps lose, Turgeon unfairly gets bashed by much of the Terp faithful. Well, Maryland just finished in a tie for 1st in what is considered by most “experts” as the greatest top to bottom Big Ten Conference ever. This includes being THE target team in 1st place for most of the season. Penn State, Ohio State, and Rutgers made their season by defeating Maryland. Fans stormed the court at Rutgers and Penn State. There is a reason for this, the Terps finished 14-6 in Conference and truly are the Big Ten Champions.

Hats off to Turge, Anthony and Stix and the rest of this super squad.

The Big Ten will release its MVP and All Big Ten Ten team on Monday at 4.

My picks are: 1st Team—Garza (Iowa), Stix, Cassius Winston (Michigan State), Lamar Stevens (Penn State) and Daniel Oturu (Minn)

2nd Team—Anthony Cowan, Ayo Desunmu (Illinois), Xavier Tillman (Mich State), Kaleb Wesson (OSU), and Nate Reuvers (Wisconsin)

Coach of the Year–Greg Gard Wisconsin–look at his roster and tell me how the Badgers went 14-6

Most Clutch Performer–Hands Down–Anthony Cowan

Shot of the year–Darryl Morsell’s Trey against Minnesota to complete an incredible comeback.

Freshman of the year. Trayce Jackson Davis (Indiana)
