A day of Defeat for the Big 10 Except for Ohio State

By Bruce Posner –

#1 I’m not sure what team was wearing the Terrapin jerseys tonight in Littlejohn Coliseum. This Clemson game bothered me the second I saw it on the schedule. Though it was years ago, Maryland has always had problems at Clemson. Last night was no exception. 38-15 at half time is inconceivable. At least the Terps came out of the coma in the 2nd half. Hakeem Hart continues to show promise and expect more minutes for him.

One bad game does not dictate what will happen, but yes I am a little bit worried.

Coach Turgeon has 4 days to prepare for the beginning of the real season and in 2020 and there won’t be 18,000 screaming fans to help out.

Turge might have to employ the press more to get these guys going, although I doubt Ayala, Wiggins and Morsell will repeat Wednesday’s performance. Judgment day arrives early for the Terps Monday night at 6PM.

#2 After a stellar 6-1 day against the ACC, Day 2 turned into a disaster for the Big 10, with Maryland losing by 16, Nebraska getting rolled at home, and Indiana and Northwestern losing safe leads in the final minutes.

Checking out nbadraft.net for 2021, I could not find the name Luka Garza in either of the first 2 rounds. Someone has to explain this to me.

#3 As expected (and rightfully so I believe) the Big 10 capitulated to Ohio State and removed the 6 game requirement to participate in the Big 10 Championship. The Big 10 desperately needs to be included in the final four and a victory against Northwestern will secure it. Meanwhile it appears as if Maryland is destined to play Wisconsin in the cross division game.

For what its worth CBSsports.com has Maryland playing Missouri in the Outback Bowl on Jan 2.
