Maryland senior defensive lineman Joe Vellano on Thursday was named to the watch lists for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy and the Outland Trophy.
The Nagurski Trophy is given annually to the nation’s best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the Charlotte Touchdown Club; the Outland Trophy is given to the best interior lineman in college football and includes 71 players, just 18 of which are defensive tackles. Maryland senior tight end Matt Furstenburg has been named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, the Nassau County Sports Commission announced Tuesday.

University of Maryland director of athletics Kevin Anderson will become president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) for 2012-13, the association announced Tuesday. Anderson was elected to the post in conjunction with the 47th Annual NACDA Convention, which was held June 22-28 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
