The fourth-seeded Maryland women’s basketball team fell to fifth-seeded Georgia Tech 70-64 Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum. Junior Kim Rodgers led the Terrapins (23-7, 9-5) with 13 points, while ACC Rookie of the Year Alyssa Thomas added 12. Rodgers was 3-for-6 from outside the arc. Thomas led the team with six boards in her 21 minutes.

I have been to the Coral Gables Arena. It might hold 7500 but last night the camera had to keep moving to avoid a really embarassing crowd. Is that how you reward your players on Senior Night? Randy Edsall continues his getting to know you tour around the State. Everywhere the new maryland Head coach goes, he continues to pick up new supporters. Last night Coach Edsall was a guest at a Sports boosters event in Owings Mills. Coach Edsall briefly reviewed his staff, spoke highly of Danny O”Brien and Kenny Tate, Randy is a great promoter of the University spst, Labor day against the U awaits.

Maryland swept the league weekly awards Tuesday as Karri Ellen Johnson and Katie Schwarzmann were tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Johnson scored five goals and added an assist to lead No. 1 Maryland to its’ first ACC win this season against No. 3 Duke, 18-11. The junior moved into sixth all-time in career goals at Maryland with 160. Schwarzmann coupled her third five-goal performance this season with a phenomenal defensive effort against Duke.
