University of Maryland senior Greivis Vasquez was among the student-athletes named Wednesday as a preseason candidate for the 2009-10 John Wooden Award, given to the men’s basketball national player of the year. Vasquez, a second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection as both a sophomore and junior, was among 50 players selected to the preseason list, including 10 players from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Everyone at Maryland is saddened by the death of Bob Novak. Gary released the following statement today.

Maryland junior linebacker Alex Wujciak found his name on another preseason awards list. The junior linebacker was named to the watch list for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, which honors the top defensive player in the country. Wujciak was one of 62 players on the list, which was announced Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.
