A local basketball legend from my era, 7’1″ Marvin Webster a product of Edmonson High and Morgan State University passed away on Saturday in Tulsa. Marvin played in the MSA a few years after I graduated from Northwestern High but was instantly known around Baltimore for his basketball prowess. He was a tremendous shot blocker for Edmonson in the days when City College dominated the local basketball scene. “Webster played from 1972 to 1975 at Morgan, where he was renowned … Read More »

Let’s see what has happened in the last 5 days:
On Monday, Carl Henry was going to take a job with Memphis, perhaps insuring Xavier’s presence at Memphis. This would trigger Lance going to Kansas despite the fact he will never get the ball out of Sherron Collins’ hands./
On Tuesday, Carl Henry said he turned down the Memphis job. Forget the above paragraph.
On Sunday night at the CharmCity Classic, Maryland’s 2 new bigs were outstanding. Greivis has to … Read More »
Greivis this is for you. I am certainly not aware of you or your family’s financial positon. I realize this must be part of the reason you are testing the NBA waters. After all you given to the University, I only wish you the best of luck. But Come back to your Comcast home–here are my reasons why:
1) Jordan Williams and James Padgett are flat out studs. The Terps will have a big man presence next year. You have … Read More »
I will explain the Lance reference in a minute. Here are Dookie (errrr Dickie) V’s picks:
#5 Michigan State #4 Purdue #3 Syracuse #2 Duke (who Else) #1 Kansas
His reasoning on Kansas starts with the return of one of top point guards in the Nation, Sherron Collins. Lance, with or without Xavier Hanry , you will never see the ball on the Jayhawks.
Andrew Schwartzman, Former Maryland Midfielder and known for his clutch play and baby brother Jesse, the 2 time MOP of the NCAA Champion Johns Hopkins team will be the guests this Tuesday night at 6PM on Terp Talk. On this one day of the year the Brothers Schwartzman do not see eye to eye on anything. Bruce Block and myself will join in the fray. Also. Andy Bialo from Inside Lacrosse (and Johns Hopkins) will weigh in on his take … Read More »
As predicted this morning on terptalk.com, the NCAA Championship was never a game. The Tarheels jumped out to a big double digit lead and never wavered. Ty Lawson was incredible as always. Tyler Hansborough played his usual game and Carolina was just too deep for anyone in this tournament. My prediction was a no contest 18 point win , The game was a No Contest 17 point win for the tar heels. Maybe now we can stop hearing about the … Read More »
The #2 Lady Terps (now 13-0) completed a 2 game sweep of Midwestern powers Penn State and The Ohio State University. Karri Ellen Johnson scored 6 goals leading the Terps to victory. Next up is North Carolina Sat afternoon at noon at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
The boos could be heard from miles away as Baltimore native Mark Texiera made his YANKEE DEBUT in Baltimore. Say it ain’t so Tex.It’s not like the O’s didnt make him a decent offer. But like Mercenary Mussina, he took the money and ran. Anyway, hitting is not the problem. The O’s hung a dime on CC and the Yanks, and should have scored more. Rematch Weds 7PM at M&T Bank Stadium.
From the second I saw the physical presence of Maryland’s 2009 recruits, Jordan Williams and James Padgett, I was excited about the Terrapins future. Watching them play only accentuated the feeling that perhaps the Terps might become the bullies of the ACC over the next few years. James is Gary’s dream player, playing at 100% even when the game became a dunking contest. James was able to gain positon to convert 11 of 13 shots and clearly claim the MVP … Read More »
