Maryland opens its 2015 campaign Sept. 5 with a noon bout against FCS opponent Richmond of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Spiders, headed by Danny Rocco, a former Terps’ linebacker coach who was actually on the same Boston College staff as UMD headman Randy Edsall in 1991, finished 9-5 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2009 last season.

In a rematch of the 2013 national championship game, the No. 13-ranked Maryland men’s soccer program played to a scoreless draw with No. 4 Notre Dame in the opening game of the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic on Friday evening.

Maryland (0-0-1) started five new players, including freshmen Sebastian Elney, Eryk Williamson, Diego Silva, and Amar Sejdic. A total of eight rookies made their Terrapin debuts Friday.

The Maryland field hockey team won at Temple, 4-2, Friday afternoon in its season opener and the first game of the Conference Cup. Freshman Linnea Gonzales led the Terrapins (1-0) with two scores in her Maryland debut.
