In a rematch of last season’s overtime thriller, the No. 3 Maryland men’s soccer team defeated in-state rival UMBC 3-1 Tuesday night at Ludwig Field. Redshirt freshman Jordan Tatum picked up his first career win at keeper with three saves.Patrick Mullins and Jake Pace tallied goals for the Terps (4-0-1), who have now registered 13 goals in the last three matches.
In addition to their work on the field, Maryland student-athletes worked hard in the classroom last year as the department-wide cumulative and semester GPAs were raised overall and all sports received impressive NCAA APR scores. The student-athlete cumulative GPA increased to 2.875, up from 2.862 in the fall semester, and the semester GPA for spring 2012 was 2.881, which improved from 2.856 in the fall of 2011.

Maryland quarterback Perry Hills has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for his play in the Terrapins’ 36-27 win over Temple, the league announced Monday. Hills went 11 of 21 for 190 yards, two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in the victory. He led Maryland to a 23-point second quarter by hitting Matt Furstenburg for a 22-yard touchdown, Marcus Leak for a 32-yard score and then running 11 yards for a touchdown.
Fighting the Injuries
