Coach K has liked Melo from Day one. Can you imagine his relationship with Carmelo is so good, Anthony has bought into being the 6th man. Melo put the USA on his back last night especially in the first half, scoring 22 and preventing Spain from getting too big of an early lead.
I went to the game last night and had to endure Oriole batter after batter striking out, many looking. Even Rick Dempsey was in a critical mode last night. Excellent pitching efforts are being wasted. Here are some of the strikeout problem batters.

I guess the overall effect on the community at large ruled out the death penalty. One issue that needs to be cleared up is the lifting of the 85 max scholarship figure for the kids who wish to transfer. It should be a 1 year lifting due to the late time of the decision. Again–2 mistakes cost us the game. Chris Davis was unable to make a relatively routine play that led to 2 runs and Markakis ran through a stop sign to kill a rally by the O’s. As most teams were trying to pick up help for the pennant or wild card chase, the O’s so far have stood pat.
If KD slumps against Spain, France or Argentina, the USA might be upset. Spain could be a problem because of the lack of size to combat the Gasol brothers. The SA had 2 20 point leads in this game but could not put away a really mediocre team.
No death penalty? That’s the hammer but we shall see what happens Monday morning.
I think I finally realized NEVER and I mean NEVER 2nd guess Buck. This guy is one of a kind. He engineers the O’s through every inning of every game, winning game after game when you can feel the collapse coming. It’s fun to be an Oriole fan again.
