 Karri Ellen JohnsonKelly McPartland and Katie Schwarzmannnetted hat tricks to lead No. 3 Maryland past No. 6 Virginia 12-9 on Friday.

The win is Maryland’s 36th consecutive at home and first in league play this season. The Terps (4-1, 1-1 ACC) picked up an additional goal each form Alex AustBeth Glaros, andKristy Black. Friday’s loss was the first for Virginia (3-1, 0-1 ACC) this season.

Ryan Holland delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and lift Maryland over Manhattan Friday afternoon at rain-soaked Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. The Terps are now 6-1 and off to their best start in 37 years. Alyssa Thomas scored 18 points and No. 6 Maryland beat Virginia 70-58 on Friday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinal.

Brene Moseley added 13 points and Tianna Hawkins had 10 rebounds for the third-seeded Terrapins (26-4), the highest-seeded team left after No. 5 Duke and No. 7 Miami were upset earlier in the day.

 Maryland women’s basketball sophomore Alyssa Thomas was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford Thursday. The conference’s top individual honor is voted on by the league’s “Blue Ribbon Panel,” which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives.
