Katie Schwarzmann scored a career-high six goals as No. 2 Maryland picked up its first road victory 16-6 at No. 17 Penn State Sunday afternoon. Schwarzmann scored five of her six goals in the first half and also racked up a game-high six groundballs. Karri Ellen Johnson and Brooke Griffin also tallied two goals each as Maryland (3-0) won its third consecutive game by 10 or more goals. I just have a great feeling about this year’s squad. Trailing 5-1 in the 5th the Terps tied it up on a 3 Run HR by Tim Kiene. The Bruins scored in the bottom of the inning and held on for a 6-5 win. Last night the Terps scored 2 in the 9th and Jimmy Reed struck out the side to preserve a 2-1 victory before a stunned UCLA crowd.

Observations of a great opening win for the Terps:
Curtis Holmes won the face face off battle 19-1. A team will rarely lose with this margin. Today was no different. Curtis also had a goal and scooped 9 ground balls.
Quint Kessenich did not pick Maryland for his top 10 this year and somewhat indicated that Hartford was on the rise and the Terps were on the fall. That was not what I saw.
