Laurin Mincy scored 20, and No. 8 Maryland bounced back from its first loss of the season by defeating Virginia 68-61 Monday night in a rugged Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. Lynetta Kizer had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Terrapins (17-1, 4-1) in her first double-double of the season. Alicia DeVaughn added nine points and her and Tianna Hawkins each added nine rebounds. But the Terrapins outdid the ACC’s best defense by holding the Cavaliers to 39 percent shooting and finishing … Read More »

Brian Stewart, a former assistant with four NFL teams who oversaw the Dallas Cowboys’ defense under Wade Phillips, is expected to be introduced as Maryland’s defensive coordinator as soon as Tuesday, according to two sources. Stewart, who spent the past two seasons as the University of Houston’s defensive coordinator, is expected in College Park on Tuesday and — barring unforeseen circumstances is scheduled to be introduced to the media.

Baltimore is facing a challenge that is statistically unlike anything it has seen this year. Perhaps the best blueprint for beating the Patriots’ pass offense was showcased by the Pittsburgh Steelersin Week 8, when they played a lot of press coverage and stayed in nickel even when the Patriots put three tight ends on the field. They held Brady to just 198 passing yards and sacked him three times.
Surprisingly, the two teams that had the best games against New … Read More »
For the record I was not in 2 places at one time today. I ecstatically made the drive to College Park after the Ravens game and arrived for the decisive 2nd half at 5PM.
Sean was special today, going 10-10 from the could line and hitting a crucial 3 after Terch pulled to within 4. I talked to him after the game and will play the interview on Terp Talk Thursday night.
Stogs had another off shooting night , going … Read More »
Some thoughts 7 hours after the game:
Where are the Ed Reed naysayers now? What a tremendous game for #20. He just seems so physically susceptible. Ed was in the right place almost every crucial play. Apparently, his injury on the last play of the game was nothing serious. “Ed Reed is one of the greatest safeties to ever play this game.”—Ray Lewis
Everyone including myself said a rookie QB can’t come into M&T and defeat the Ravens. TJ didn’t … Read More »
This remains uncharted territory for Lakers guard Steve Blake. He’d never suffered a rib injury, at least nothing serious enough to keep him sidelined. “I’ve taken shots in the ribs before,” Blake said, “and I’ve never had a problem.”
But now he has. The Lakers estimate that it will take three or four weeks for Blake to fully recover from fractured cartilage that connects the rib to the sternum — a long way from the team’s initial day-to-day prognosis and Blake’s … Read More »
Houston has enjoyed a breakthrough season capturing its first ever division title despite losing 12 players for the season, including its first two quarterbacks. It’s too much to ask the Texans to go on the road – with a third-string rookie quarterback – and beat playoff-tested Baltimore and its elite defense. Never before in their 10- year franchise history have the Texans won a playoff road game. Heck, they’ve never even played in a postseason road matchup. Baltimore is 18-1 … Read More »
