Seniors Davin Meggett, Andrew Gonnella and Kenny Tate, as well as junior Joe Vellano will serve as captains for the Maryland football team in 2011.

“I have been impressed with how these young men have conducted themselves in all of our team functions,” said head coach Randy Edsall, who made the announcement Tuesday. “These players are respected by their teammates, understand the team concept and work hard every day. I’m looking forward to working … Read More »

By the way game time is 3:30 PM on ESPN2.. I hope the answer is yes to the headline question. Beating NC State will be no picnic but the motivation is there. Certainly a bowl in Nashville against say the Volunteers would represent an excellent season.

Look for Danny OBrien to have a big game Saturday. Perhaps with the pressure of a huge game , #5might have been under wraps. Not next Saturday there is absolutely nothing to lose. A … Read More »

Some observations of another disappointing loss:

Jamarr Robinson looked excellent in defeat. In the series he was in , Jamarr threw 3 on the money bullet passes. He also engineered the last TD drive to close the gap to 19-17.

Torrey Smith finished a brilliant season with a TD reception late in the game.

35000 at the game today with the student sections obviously being effected by theThanksgiving holiday.

Alex Wujciak had 12 tackles today.

It was an emotional for … Read More »

Some observations of the Terps loss to Nc State.

Chris Turner was having a good day before being injured. He was 12-15 for 135 yards. There has been no update on his availability for the rest of the year.

Considering Jamarr Robinson has virtuall never played before , I thought he turned in a preetg performance. Certainly he is a better option if there are so many QB running plays in the game plan.Jamarr is very mobile and ran for … Read More »

There is very little to say after today’s loss, in which a disappointing season keeps getting worse. Some observations of another tough conference game.

I listened to 90% of the game and enjoyed it much more then watching on a stuttering 360.  I just finished watching the replay on 360 but it should be noted that Comcast will replay the game at 7:30 tomorrow night.

Caleb Porzel had some good moments though his stats tell a different story.

Just like … Read More »

Rutgers 31 Maryland 13 says it all. Some observations ona dismal afternoon:

4th and 3 from midfield and we go for it? Rutgers presented the most pathetic offense I have seen for a Terp opponent. Pin them back and maybe a good punt return or turnover  or anything positive could happen.

The 2 way after the whistle unsportsmanlike conduct calls were killers. Why? Where is any discipline?

What would the score had been if Savage (QB1 for Rutgers) played?

Torrie … Read More »

Well first I’d like to see them come out in white jerseys and red pants.  First offensive play of the game I’d like to see play action and throw a long pass to Cannon or Torrey Smith.  I want to see a lot diagonal passes so guys can separate from their defenders and use their speed to turn the corner.  Screens to Scott and Meggett and one flea-flicker or reverse if we get the ball around mid field on a … Read More »

Chris Turner, Torrey Smith and Freshman placekicker Nick Ferrara starred in the final scrimmage for the Terps Thursday night. Friedgen noted again after the scrimmage how much he is enjoying the chemistry on the team. Two-a-days is extremely wearing both physically and mentally, and yet this group has stayed positive throughout fall camp. “I think they’re excited about the season. Just today being out there going through the (pre-game), they were getting pumped for that. Most guys, I’m telling you, … Read More »

The plethora of talent at the skill positions for Terrapin football is creating a healthy competition for depth chart rankings at the running back position.

The biggest improvement in the scrimmage Sunday was the running game. Redshirt freshman Gary Douglas had a team-best 122 yards on 17 carries, while Morgan Green ran for 56 yards on 10 carries. The two are … Read More »

Former Sun beat writer, now ESPN blogger, Heather Dinich summarized her predictions for the Terrapins this year:

1. First-year defensive coordinator Don Brown will have the right plan but the front seven will be a step behind in executing it. Brown was a great hire, and his aggressive defensive philosophy will be an upgrade, but Maryland’s front seven is comprised of relatively unknown, unproven players. The Terps will rely heavily on linebackers Alex Wujciak and Adrian Moten to replace a … Read More »
