In a 4 hour 50 minute epic, the American League, down to their last player, outlasted the National League when Justin Morneau barely scored on a sac fly by Michael Young.  Both teams squandered opportunities in the late innings.  With the win the AL gains home field advantage in the World Series.  JD Drew of the Red Sox was named MVP.  Terry Francona used George Sherrill as a last resort, but the Orioles stopper came throughpitching … Read More »

On February 29, Maryland will be part of the Konica Minolta Faceoff Classic taking on the Duke Blue Devils.  Then later in the year on April 1, the 106th meeting of Johns Hopkins and Maryland will also take place at M&T.  Coach Cottle commented on the news: “This is an exciting opportunity for the Maryland men’s lacrosse program and its fans and we’re thrilled to be a part of both events.      Despite 17 points apiece from Blatche and Nick Young, the Wizards fell to Portland 78-73 in the first Las Vegas Summer league game.  First round pick Javal McGee scored 11 but more importantly displayed shot blocking skills and strong aggressive play.  Jerryd Bayless dominated the court for the Trailblazers, giving indication that Steve Blake’s minutes this year will definitely be reduced.

Terrapin Sophomores Tony Mendes (2 goals 1 assist), Ryan Young (1 g 2 assists) and defense-man Max Schmidt led Team USA to a 19-12 victory Sunday in British Columbia over Canada in the U19 World Championship game.  This on top of the stellar performances turned in by the 6 future Terps in the UA All Star Game leads me to believe that Maryland will be a dominant force in lacrosse over the next 3 years.

Ernie Grunfeld has now placed the immediate future of the Wizards franchise in the hands of recently oft injured Gilbert Arenas.  I have always believed that the organization thinks it is ready to win the NBA Title with the Big 3 as its nucleus.  Time will tell.  The Wizards open up their summer league schedule Monday night with the Portland Trailblazers at 8PM on Comcast.

Bidding to become Baltimore’s 2nd Heavyweight Champ, Tony Thompson was not up to the task as he was dominated and eventually knocked out by Heavyweight Champ Wladamir Klitschko late in the bout. The Orioles pitching failed again Saturday night as Kevin Youkalis hit a grand slam which led to a 12-1 shellacking by the Red Sox.

The Orioles stand at 45-46. Where would they be without their 2nd Baseman? It’s amazing to realize how strong the hitting has become.  Does Johnson become the closer? Do the O’s trade Huff while his value is so high? Have ever seen a team run the bases so poorly?

Two A’s in summer school class supposedly readies Steve Goins to be admitted to the University, according to the Terrapin Times.  Along with Sean Mosley, and Jin Soo Kim the 2008 class appears to be heading into completion. Goins would certainly add some beef up front for the Terps who only have Braxton Dupree and Jerome Burney returning to the front line.

On the Wizards front, Roger mason will be sorely missed as the Wizards lost the Virginia … Read More »

The Orioles are definitely in free fall.  George Sherrill blew his 3rd save in the past 10 days, failing to hold onto a 5-4 lead in Toronto.  That makes it 5 losses in a row.  Could this spell the end of Aubrey Huff as an Oriole.  Should the Orioles jettison Huff, Millar, and Sherill to pick up more young talent. Stay tuned!!!! The Orioles limp into Boston for a 3 game series before the All Star break.
