Big changes are afoot for Maryland women’s basketball. Unsurprisingly, after two straight trips to the Final Four, Maryland’s coaching staff has become something of a hot commodity. After seven seasons as an assistant to Brenda Frese, and the last several as associate head coach, Tina Langley, will move on to become the head coach at Rice University both schools announced Tuesday afternoon.
Langley, whose principal on court responsibility has been coaching the Terps’ post players, also assisted Frese on … Read More »
Bo Ryan after the loss to Maryland—
On staying in front of Maryland’s guards:
“We didn’t do a great job with that. Sometimes it just comes down to a guy being quicker or better. [Dez] Wells and [Melo] Trimble are better off the bounce and we were trying to take that away. Again, we know we are going to give up some because of their ability, we aren’t going to shut anyone out, but if you’re not making shots at … Read More »
In the end, it was just too much. Too much UConn. Too much talent. Too much balance. Too much precision. Too much Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck. And there is neither shame nor disgrace in that. Because the Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball is usually too much for anyone in NCAA women’s basketball.
As I noted in my preview, UConn has lost 12 games since the beginning of the 2009-10 season. Seven of those came to a Skylar Diggins led … Read More »
Final Comments on a Miraculous season for the Terps that Ended Sort of Predictably:
Whatever chance the Terps had to pull the upset ended quickly with 2 early ticky tack fouls on Brionna Jones combined with a few other questionable calls. I wonder if Brenda ever thought to throw caution to the wind and play Brionna with 2 fouls
The Terps finished with 13 assists and 13 turnovers, not a horrible amount
Lexie Brown had but 1 turnover in 38 … Read More »
Freshman Kevin Smith hit a game tying two-run homer in the seventh and scored the winning run in the ninth as the No. 17 Maryland baseball team rallied past No. 18 Nebraska for a 6-5 win and a series sweep at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium Sunday.
After falling behind by five runs in the first two innings, the Terrapins (22-7, 7-2) scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth before Smith’s two-run home run in the seventh. Junior Alex … Read More »
Unfortunately Maryland has come to a crossroads tonight. It was inevitable that to get to the promised land, defeating UConn, a seemingly impossible task, would be part of the journey. As much as I think I know about basketball, I have no conception about how to scheme to win this game.
Do you slow it down to shorten the the game and keep it close? I don’t believe that is in Brenda’s DNA. Do you run with them and hope … Read More »
For the 2nd time in 3 years I have won my own contest. What shocks me is that I was the the only one to pick Wisconsin. Certainly I was helped by the fact that being how we all feel about Duke, no one would pick Coack K to be in the finals.
Thanks to Jordan for doing all the leg work. GO BADGERS!!!
