Maryland senior Katie Schwarzmann has been named the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Wednesday by the league office.

 Maryland junior midfielder Katie Schwarzmann was named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award for the second consecutive season Thursday.

Schwarzmann, the 2012 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, will have the opportunity to become the third Terrapin to win the top award in college lacrosse, joining Jen Adams (2001) and Caitlyn McFadden (2010).

Five men and five women garnered invitations to Washington, D.C. for the 12th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, May 31 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.

Katie Schwarzmann tallied three goals but a late-game surge fell short as No. 1 Maryland dropped its first match of the season at No. 14 Dartmouth, 9-8, in double overtime Sunday. Maryland (18-1) dropped its first game since losing to North Carolina April 14, 2010. Maryland swept the league weekly awards Tuesday as Karri Ellen Johnson and Katie Schwarzmann were tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Johnson scored five goals and added an assist to lead No. 1 Maryland to its’ first ACC win this season against No. 3 Duke, 18-11. The junior moved into sixth all-time in career goals at Maryland with 160. Schwarzmann coupled her third five-goal performance this season with a phenomenal defensive effort against Duke.

Niko Amato (goalie) , Jesse Bernhardt, brother of Jake, and Landon Carr will represent the Terrapins as they join the 2009 incoming class in the Under Armour game tonight.

Five incoming Lady freshmen,  Alex Aust (Sterling, Va./Bullis), Danielle Kirk (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding), Sarah Matz (Reistertown, Md./Bryn Mawr), Iliana Sanza (Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul’s), and Katie Schwarzmann (Sykesville, Md./Century) will all play for the North squad.
