The Maryland field hockey team (10-1, 3-0 ACC), ranked No. 1 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, beat No. 19 Michigan (7-5, 2-0 Big Ten) 4-3 Sunday afternoon to give head coach Missy Meharg career win 400. Katie O’Donnell notched a hat trick to lead the Terps to victory.

Senior Katie O’Donnell is with the US National team for a seven-game series in Europe. Team USA won three of four matches in Valencia, Spain against the Spanish team and will move on for three games in England. Maryland head coach Missy Meharg will be inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame Sunday in the Association’s annual ceremony, which will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Maryland field hockey junior Katie O’Donnell won this year’s Honda Sports Award earlier today, the award given to the nation’s top field hockey player. O’Donnell won the award for her outstanding performance in the 2009 season. I have said many times Katie O”Donnell is the greatest American Hockey player ever!!! Today she put the undefeated Terrapins on her back scoring 3 goals and 2 assists, as the Lady Terps held off probably their toughest opponent of the year. Leading 4-1 early in the 2nd half, Princeton stormed back for 3 quick goals tieing the game at 4. But the Terps responded as Champs do scoring 3 more times.
