Coming off of its seventh NCAA title in program history, the Maryland field hockey team announced today the addition of three incoming freshmen to the squad. Madieu Williams, a Minnesota Vikings safety who played at the University of Maryland, was named the winner of the Walter Payton Award before kickoff of Super Bowl XLV.  Williams, who was born in Sierra Leone, also attended DuVal High School in Lanham, Md., and Towson University.

Lots of my readers wanted the Steelers to lose in the worst way. I am happy they lost. It takes a little of the sting out of the Ravens disastrous 2 losses to Pittsburgh. It was great to see the defensive player of the year, #43, get beat by Jennings. It was fun to watch the Mike Tomlin interview. I am waiting for the Hines Ward interview. The Steelers were unable to attack a totally depleted Packer secondary.

Lynetta Kizer had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and No. 12 Maryland used a strong second half to defeat North Carolina State 88-59 on Sunday.  The Terrapins (20-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed by 12 with just over 13 minutes elapsed and 39-36 at halftime before storming back to extend their winning streak to seven. The victory gave Maryland its seventh consecutive 20-win season under coach Brenda Frese.
