Athletics can sometimes be a cruel endeavor.

Two teams took the field at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park Wednesday night. The home team was undefeated and ranked first in the land while the visitors carried an 8-5 record into the game and had lost twice in double overtime.

 After being down 6-3 at halftime, the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team (11-0) rallied to defeat Johns Hopkins, 10-8, Wednesday evening at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
 
“Hopkins came out and did a good job capitalizing on their opportunities in the first half,” head coach Cathy Reese said. “I think we were able to get some better looks in the second half and make some smarter choices to get the win.”

Maryland head football coach DJ Durkin announced Tuesday that he has hired Andy Buh as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Buh, who has previously served as the defensive coordinator at Stanford, Nevada and Cal, comes to Maryland from the University of Kentucky, where he’s been the outside linebackers coach since 2015 and was recently promoted to also serve as special teams coordinator. Durkin and Buh were on the same staff at Stanford in 2007.
