Johns Hopkins played a near flawless game and squashed Ohio State 13-6 to win the Big Ten Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAAs.

Miquel Gonzalez was brilliant tonight going 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball as the O’s won 4-0. Sunday the O’s will play it’s last home game of the year in Tampa.

American Pharoah, the 5-2 favorite won the Kentucky Derby for trainer Bob Baffert. Is this a triple crown horse? I doubt it.

I have watched Floyd many times and the story is always the same–he is one of the greatest defensive boxers of all time–you just can’t hit him. In 12 rounds, I believe Manny only landed 81 punches many of which were ineffective. Maybe Manny could have given him a battle 5 years ago but I doubt it.

Some days being a sports fan kinda sucks.

Here’s a list of teams I root for who played games Friday: Maryland softball, Maryland women’s lacrosse, Maryland baseball, the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals.

Here’s a list of the teams on that list that won:

Add the loss by the Maryland men’s lacrosse team Thursday night and the 24 hour period, well, as Maryland students are so fond of shouting, sucks.

By all intents and purposes, the Baltimore Ravens got terrific value in Iowa defensive tackle Carl Davis in the third round (No. 90 overall) of the 2015 NFL draft. Ranked as the No. 53 player available by CBS Sports and No. 35 by ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr., Davis fell to the Ravens late in the third round.

Davis has the power and athletic upside to blossom into a better player in the NFL than he was for the Hawkeyes. … Read More »

STRENGTHS
A redshirt sophomore with an NFL pedigree (his dad played for the Giants, his grandfather for the Bears), Maxx Williams is the clear-cut top tight end in this class. He’s a plus-level athlete in terms of speed, strength and agility and displays the total skill set to get open and produce in the NFL. Williams has clean hands and looks the ball into his frame without hesitation or double-clutching. Williams has the speed to run away from coverage … Read More »

The Ohio State Buckeyes and Maryland Terrapins traveled to Piscataway to meet in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. The Buckeyes came into the tournament likely needing to win it all to claim a bid to the NCAA Tournament and played like it. They held their own in the draw circle winning 10 of 22 and outhustled the Terps getting to 13 ground balls to Maryland’s nine.

They held Taylor Cummings to no goals and one assist. They scored an exceedingly … Read More »

Maryland Lacrosse

Earlier this week, Maryland head volleyball coach Steve Aird officially introduced his incoming four player class for 2015. With every recruit best suited to playing a different position on the court, each player has an opportunity to compete for early playing time and make a positive contribution for Maryland in the Terrapins’ second Big Ten season. Let’s meet the newest Terps.

Less than two weeks after their overtime loss to Maryland in the Showdown in the Shoe, the Ohio State Buckeyes came to College Park to face the Terrapins in a Big Ten semifinal contest. The Terps didn’t play their best game for the first three quarters and had missed two critical opportunities but still managed to hold on to a slim 5-4 lead. The fourth quarter belonged entirely to Ohio State and the Buckeyes pulled away for a 9-6 win.

Some comments on a sad night at College Park

Last year when the Big 10 Commissioner awarded the first Lax tournament to be played in College Park, I was ecstatic. Tonight after watching another home loss by the Terps, i was extremely disappointed. And yet the Terps are still 12-3 but on a downward spiral.

The good–maybe Charlie Raffa needs 2 more days to be ready. It’s clear that the Terps are a vastly superior team with #7 playing.

So it’s … Read More »
