Maryland men’s soccer head coach Sasho Cirovski has announced the hiring of former Terrapin standout Michael Dello-Russo as assistant coach, announced Monday.
Dello-Russo, who played for Maryland from 2001-2005, was a two-time captain for Cirovski and was instrumental in guiding the Terps to their first national championship since 1968 as a senior in 2005. The Maryland men’s soccer team will face intrastate rival Loyola (Md.) Thursday at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship at Ludwig Field. Maryland (12-5-2) embarks on its 29th trip to the NCAA Tournament overall and ninth-straight. Junior Jason Herrick has merged as the focal point of the offens as he led the Terps to a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall by scoring twice. The #5 Terps move to 10-3-1 on the season. The Terps now shift their focus to the highly-anticipated ACC battle between the last two national champions when Maryland heads to No. 3 Wake Forest on Saturday. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The #6 Men’s soccer team journeye to Georgetown and defeated the #16 Hoyas 2-1 on the strength of opening half goals from Drew Yates and leading scorer Jason Herrick. The Terps again played without Casey Townsend. Next up for the Terps is a road game at Clemson Friday night.
Once again the #11 Terps dominated a team yet struggled to achieve victory.
