No more speculation!! As things officially unfold I will report them. As of this second Ralph is still the Coach, and Leach has not signed. So be it. Let’s take a look at Ralph’s tenure at Maryland.
Friedgen has a 74-50 record in nine-plus years, including the only three straight 10-win seasons in school history (10-2 in 2001, 11-3 in 2002 and 10-3 in 2003). His 74 overall victories rank 10th on the ACC’s all-time list .

Minutes after winning the Super Bowl, Ozzie Newsome asked Brian Billick why he waited a year before taking the trophy. Billick’s answer–“Thats one more year I will have here before they toss me out.” Ten years seems to be the max number these days before a coach wears out his welcome. Let me get several things off my chest.
Ralph did a tremendous job turning the program back around this year. So much so, he easily earned my vote as … Read More »
If, and it seems almost certain, that Mike Leach becomes the new head coach of the Terrapins, AD Kevin Anderson will have completed a series of steps designed to do 2 things–fill the many empty seats at Byrd and bring Terrapin football back to national prominence. The Coach in waiting theory might have been a good idea at first but recently it has wrecked havoc with the program. By James leaving for Vanderbilt and Ralph being bought out of his … Read More »
Well I guess Comcast was wrong—James hasn’t signed yet. This Coach in waiting issue has thrown the situation into chaos. I am not sure which is more complicated –if he stays or leaves. Kevin Anderson will have his hands full either way. For my money I hope he stays. And that is no criticism on the guy I voted for as ACC Coach of the Year—Ralph Friedgen.
This story has been a hot potato all day, but as of 12AM Comcast was scrolling that James Franklin has indeed accepted the Head coaching job at Vanderbilt University. This certainly ends the speculation that has probably been a negative over the past 3 or 4 years about who the head coach will be. I would say however that I believe that James never gave anything less that 110% in attempts to win. James is a very confident guy who … Read More »
What a miraculous, insane Monday night game last night. The Ravens almost blew a 21-0 and then a 28-7 lead on tremendous play by former UVA QB Matt Schaub. The Ravens defensive players were literally out of gas as Schaub marched the Texans to 2 drives of 99 and 95 yards to tie the game. Fortunately the Ravens won the OT toss to give their defense a breather. The 2nd biggest play was a tremendous punt that pinned the Texans … Read More »
When you meet James Franklin, you know you are meeting one of the most confident, talented, self assured football men around. Remember Ralph was ecstatic when he returned. Now with the football in waiting issue no one knows how to react. Ralph was just voted ACC Coach of the Year (He certainly received my vote) He seems to be demanding a new extended contract. Yet do we really want to see James leave. Kevin Anderson has his hands full. I … Read More »
I guess at some point we have to move on as the Terps begin to get ready for the Military Bowl Dec 29 at 2:30 PM. I am anxious to see our gunslinger Danny O’Brien take apart the East Carolina defense.
You have to listen to this piece of garbage from Tom O’Brien. He clearly states that Maryland has no fans and that NC State was clearly the 3rd best team in the conference. O’Brien must not have been at the shellacking his defense took at the hands of Danny O’Brien and Torrey Smith. When everything was on the line for the Wolfpack, Ralph embarassed him.
If and when the final decision is made sending maryland to the Military Bowl on Sunday night, look for an explosion of anti ACC sentiments coming from many Terrapin fans. I plan on expounding about this on The Sports Maven this morning.
